Astrya Global, a San Diego based medical staffing agency is looking for Psychiatrist that will float between juvenile and adult California correctional facilities in Auburn and Roseville, CA. These positions are 6-month contracts with the potential to extend.

Qualifications of Psychiatrist:

  • Current CA, MD or DO License

  • DEA

  • BC/BE in Psychiatry

  • BLS certification from American Heart Association

  • 3 years of healthcare experience

  • 2 years of supervisory/management experience

  • Correctional healthcare experience preferred

  • Strong written, verbal and computer skills

Duties/Responsibilities of Psychiatrist:

  • Perform psychiatric evaluations, establish diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans for children, adolescents, and adults.

  • Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications while monitoring patient progress.

  • Provide psychiatric care in intake, clinics, housing units, mental health units, and emergency settings.

  • Assess patients in crisis, including those at risk of suicide, and recommend appropriate interventions.

  • Manage admissions, discharges, observation levels, and housing recommendations for mental health patients.

  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies and provide timely clinical intervention.

  • Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, therapists, correctional staff, and community providers.

  • Review patient records, medication lists, and mental health referrals to ensure timely care.

  • Evaluate patients returning from outside treatment and implement recommended follow-up care.

  • Document patient encounters accurately using the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and treatment planning.

  • Provide clinical guidance and support to behavioral health staff when needed.

  • Assist with staff education, training, and program development.

  • Participate in on-call coverage, emergency preparedness, and disaster response as assigned.

  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies, clinical standards, and applicable regulations.

  • Build professional relationships with patients, colleagues, facility leadership, and community partners.
